Bright the Sun (3-year-old filly by Star Witness) recorded her second career victory in the Benchmark 58 (2227m, total prize money AUD 27,000) at the Gold Coast Racecourse on July 12.
Settled at the rear from the start, she conserved her energy before finding a run along the inside rail in the home straight. Producing a strong late burst, she surged past the field to score an impressive come-from-behind win.
Jockey Masuda commented, “It was a very good win. In her last two starts, we were able to let her settle and conserve her energy. Today, we went back to last again, and she relaxed nicely during the run. I’m really looking forward to seeing her over longer distances.”
Trainer Nakajo added, “She showed a terrific turn of foot. The inside section of the track was worn today, but when the other horses shifted away from the rail, Masuda didn’t miss the opportunity and guided her through along the shortest route. She was originally aimed at the Queensland Oaks, so we always believed she had genuine potential. I’m pleased she was able to prove it today.”
